Videx Alcohol

Videx Alcohol interaction, generic name Didanosine and is also sold under other brand names. These drugs belong to the family of drugs known as Antivirals.

It is prescribed for Acquired Immunodefeciency Syndrome (AIDS).

Moderate alcohol consumption is advised while taking this drug.

At this time the medical community defines moderate consumption of alcohol as no more than two drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks per week. Anything more than that, is considered an unhealthy dependency on alcohol that may have adverse social, family and health consequences.

If a person drinks only once or twice a week but drinks on the same days each week and more than two drinks this is considered as an alcohol dependency.

If a person binge drinks at any time during the week this is also considered as alcoholism.

Some consider alcoholism as a disease while others consider it an addiction which is the result of personal choice and character fault. This school of thought blames the alcoholism on life style choices.

Personally I consider alcoholism a genetic tendency as I have seen families of alcoholics even when they live far apart. These unfortunate people are probably dependent on alcohol from the first drink.

When alcohol interacts with prescription over the counter drugs it usually results in negative health effects most especially liver damage as the main organ affected.

Before starting advise your physician of any allergies, if you have untreated or uncontrolled epilepsy, a bone marrow disorder, paralytic ileus, intestinal blockage, clozapine infection or immune suppression medication, heart disease, heart rhythm disorder, high blood pressure, history of heart attack or stroke, epilepsy, seizure, lung disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, bone marrow disorder, blood cell disorder, enlarged prostate, urinary problems, glaucoma or a history of smoking.

Considerations

Do not use if pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Do not use if allergic to the drug.

Use with caution if you have heart disease, Down syndrome, reduced mobility of the stomach and lower esophagus, fever, stomach obstruction, glaucoma, acute bleeding, hiatal hernia, intestinal paralysis, myasthenia gravis, kidney or liver dysfunction, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure or ulcerative colitis.

Common Side Effects

Diarrhea, nervous system inflammation, fever, chills, itching, rash, abdominal pain, weakness, pains, headache, nausea, vomiting, infection, pneumonia and pancreatic inflammation.

Less Common Side effects

Tumours, muscle pain, appetite loss, dry mouth, convulsions, abnormal thought patterns, breathing difficulties, drug allergy, anxiety, nervousness, twitching, confusion, depression and blood component abnormalities.

Rare Side Effects

Abscesses, skin infections, cysts, dehydration, flu like symptoms, hernia, neck rigidity, numbness of hands or feet, chest pain, blood pressure changes, heart palpitations, migraine, dizziness, cold hands or feet, leg pain, colitis, stomach gas, stomach inflammation, ulcers or bleeding, oral fungus infections, personality changes, memory loss, convulsions, dizziness, muscle stiffness, loss of muscle control, poor coordination, loss of bowel control, strokr, feeling unwell, paranoia, paralysis,, psychosis, sleep disturbances, speech difficulties, tremors, joint inflammation or pain, swelling in legs or arms, asthma, bronchitis, cough, nosebleeds, laryingitis, pneumonia,, respiratory difficulties, blurred vision, double vision, conjunctivitis, dry eyes, hearing abnormalities, glaucoma, herpes infections of the skin and sweating.
