Valtrex Alcohol
Valtrex generic name valacyclovir given to a family of drugs known as antiviral drugs which slow the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. It will not cure herpes but it can lessen the symptoms of the infection.
This drug is used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses in adults and children which include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles and chickenpox. It may used for adults and to treat cold sores in children older than 12 and to treat chickenpox in children who are at least 2 years old.
It is suggested, moderate drinking only as the effectiveness of the drug could be comprised and the side effects of the drug may be greatly increased.
At this time the medical community defines moderate consumption of alcohol as no more than two drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks per week. If anything more than that is considered an unhealthy dependency on alcohol that may have adverse social, family and health consequences.
If a person drinks only once or twice a week but drinks on the same days each week and more than two drinks this is considered as an alcohol dependency.
If a person binge drinks at any time during the week this is also considered as alcoholism.
Some consider alcoholism as a disease while others consider it an addiction which is the result of personal choice and character fault. This school of thought blames the alcoholism on life style choices.
Personally I consider alcoholism a genetic tendency as I have seen families of alcoholics even when they live far apart. These unfortunate people are probably dependent on alcohol from the first drink.
When alcohol interacts with prescription or over the counter drugs it usually results in negative health effects most especially liver damage as the main organ affected.
Before using this drug advise your physician if you are allergic to this or any other drug or substance, are pregnant, plan to be so, are breastfeeding, have severe kidney disease, in dialysis, have HIV or AIDS or any other disease which weakens the immune system or if you have had a kidney or bone marrow transplant.
Side Effects
Less serious side effects are nausea, stomach pain, headache, dizzy, tired, depressed, joint pain, menstrual pain, mild skin rash, stuffy nose or sore throat. If these occur call your physician for advice.
Serious side effects are allergic reactions such as hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat, fever, bruising, bleeding, red spots on skin, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, jaundice, weak, faint or changes in urination, pain in lower back, drowsy, mood changes, increased thirst, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, swelling, weight gain, short of breath, confusion, agitation, aggression, hallucinations, trouble concentrating, speech or vision problems or seizures.If these occur get emergency medical help.
