Dilaudid 5 Alcohol Interaction, What is Dilaudid and side effects

Dilaudid 5 Alcohol speaks to what is Dilaudid 5 and side effects.

Dilaudid 5 generic name hydromorphone belongs to a family of drugs known as narcotic pain relievers or opioids. The drug is prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain and works to bind certain receptors in the brain and nervous system which serve to reduce pain.

Do not drink alcohol while using this drug as the side effectives will be greatly increased even resulting in death.

At this time the medical community defines moderate consumption of alcohol as no more than two drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks per week. Anything more than that is considered an unhealthy dependency on alcohol that may have adverse social, family and health consequences.

If a person drinks only once or twice a week but drinks on the same days each week and more than two drinks this is considered as an alcohol dependency.

If a person binge drinks at any time during the week this is also considered as alcoholism.

Some consider alcoholism as a disease while others consider it an addiction which is the result of personal choice and character fault. This school of thought blames the alcoholism on life style choices.

Personally I consider alcoholism a genetic tendency as I have seen families of alcoholics even when they live far apart. These unfortunate people are probably dependent on alcohol from the first drink.

When alcohol interacts with prescription over the counter drugs it usually results in negative health effects most especially liver damage as the main organ affected.

Before using the drug advise your physician if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any narcotic, or if you have had asthma, CPOD, sleep apnea, breathing disorders, liver or kidney disease, underactive thyroid, curvature of the spine, head injury, brain tumor, epilepsy, seizures, low blood pressure, gallbladder disease, Addison’s disease, adrenal gland disorders, enlarged prostate, urination problems, mental illness or a history of drug or alcohol addiction.

It is suggested that you do not use this drugif you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or are breast feeding as it is not known whether an unborn baby will be adversely affected.

Less serious side effects are nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite, warmth, tingling, redness under the skin, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, sweating or itching. If these occur call your physician for advice.
